NOT IN RIC

[CORRECTION]. According to RIC, TRIER 447 is similar to earlier TRIER 188 (Münzhandlung Basel, 6, lot 2027, 3.79 g; cited in RIC) except only for absence of dot in rev. legend. TRIER 188 probably has another distinctive feature: smaller portrait. Bruun mentions it in footnote to Crispus' coin from the same issue, i.e. TRIER 186 (Hirsch, xii, lot 674; cited in RIC). Note, however, that quite often specimens without dot in rev. legend and with larger portraits are attributed as TRIER 188.

Note that there is another similar type with m.m. TR instead of PTR. Cf. TRIER 500 (Gorny & Mosch 302, lot 527 = NAC 49, lot 482, 4.43 g, 19 mm; in both cases attribyted as TRIER 447; note distincly larger portrait).

Note also that so far three different rev. legend breaks are attested: V-V, I-V-V and V-V-E, which could make in RIC three separate entries (cf. RIC VII TRIER 18-21 or CONSTANTINOPLE 93-94).

Listed in Depeyrot (p. 61, no. 31/1).
