REVERSE

VIRTVS-CAESARIN [VIRTVS CAESARI N]; prince holding shield on arm, cloak flying, galloping r., charging kneeling enemy with spear; under horse, another enemy with shield. SMTSA in exergue.

UNLISTED OFFICINA - A [OR CONFIRMATION]. RIC lists for this type officinae A and Δ but according to Depeyrot (p. 113, no. 10/6) coin from Canessa sale 28 June 1923 (lot 568) cited in RIC, has in fact officina B. However, this reading is doubtful (see below), so this entry may be treated as a confirmation of off. A.

NOTES

Solidus. Weight 4.50 g; diameter 20 mm. Coin sold on Roma Numismatics eSale 73 (lot 992) in July 2020 for GBP 7,500.
