RIC VII, ROME [before 408], URBS ROMA, UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND

OBVERSE

VRBS-ROMA [VRBS ROMA]; bust l., helmet with plume (see CORRIGENDA, VOL. VII, p. 88), wearing imperial cloak.

REVERSE

She-wolf stg. l., suckling twins; two stars and wreath above. R "leaf" Q in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND. RIC lists this issue only with longer obv. legend: VRBS ROMA BEATA (cf. ROME 408 = RIC VIII 17). Footnote on p. 345 to ROME 408 reads as follows: "Dated in LRBC [Late Roman Bronze Coinage] (no. 593) to the time after the death of Constantine I: this is quite possible". It suggests that issue with short obv. legend VRBS ROMA could be an earlier variation. Listed in Collezione Sabetta (p. 216, no. 19). Should be listed in RIC before ROME 408.
