RIC VII, ROME [after 176], CONSTANTINE I, UNLISTED BUST TYPE [D7] AND REVERSE VARIETY

  

OBVERSE

CONST-ANTINVSAVG [CONSTANTINVS AVG]; bust r., bowl-shaped helmet with long crest, cuir. [D7].

REVERSE

VIRTVSAVGG [VIRTVS AVGG]; camp gate with three turrets, gate closed, arch over doors; varying number of stone layers. RT in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED BUST TYPE - D7 AND REVERSE VARIETY. Specimen similar to unlisted ROME [after 176] except for unbroken rev. legend and absence of letters P|R in fields. For varieties of Constantine's helmets from ROME 143-193 emission see CORRIGENDA, VOL. VII, p. 348. Note also that this obv. die was used with two other different rev. - ROME 148 and ROME 220 (both from Lars Ramskold's database). Coin should be listed after ROME 176.
