RIC VII, LONDON [before 228], CRISPUS, UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND, DOUBLE-STRIKE

OBVERSE

DNCRISPO-[NOBCAES] [D N CRISPO NOB CAES]; bust r., laur., cuir., spear across r. shoulder, shield on l. arm.

REVERSE

BEATATTRAN-Q[VILLITAS] [BEATA TTRANQVILLITAS (sic!)]; globe on altar inscribed VOT/IS/XX in three lines; above, three stars. PLON in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND. Not attested for this issue (p. 111). Not listed in Cloke-Toone. Note, however, double-strike on obverse and reverse. Legends are only partially legible and attribution is highly hypothetical. Portrait and obv. legend suggest Lyons mint but there is also clear PLON in exergue. Lyons' coin restruck in London? May be also regarded as an ancient imitation. Could be noted in RIC before LONDON 228.
