OBVERSE

IMPMAXIMIANVSPFAVG [IMP MAXIMIANVS P F AVG]; bust r., laur., dr., cuir.

REVERSE

GENIOPOPV-LIROMANI [GENIO POPVLI ROMANI]; Genius stg. l., head towered, naked but for chlamys over l. shoulder, r. holding patera, l. cornucopiae. Altar in field to l. of Genius. IITR in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

REVERSE VARIETY. Specimen similar to TREVERI 516b except for altar to l. instead of S|F letters in fields. Cf. footnote 3 to TREVERI 511 on p. 196: "Altar in field to l. of Genius: style rough: possibly unorthodox". Note also that the distinction between modius and turreted crown "is often very hard to make" (footnote 1 on p. 196). May be regarded as an ancient imitation. If Genius has modius on head, coin should be listed after TREVERI 504.

NOTES

Weight 7.08 g; diameter 28 mm. Sold on Roma Numismatics for GBP 200.
