RIC VI, TREVERI [before 163], DIOCLETIAN, UNLISTED MINTMARK AND REVERSE TYPE [IRREGULAR COIN]

IMPDIOCLETIANVSAVG [IMP DIOCLETIANVS AVG]; bust r., laur., dr., cuir.

REVERSE

GENIOPO-PVLIROMANI [GENIO POPVLI ROMANI]; Genius stg. l., modius on head, naked but for chlamys over l. shoulder, r. holding patera, l. cornucopiae. Altar in l. field, B in right field. TR in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED MINTMARK AND REVERSE TYPE. Mintmark not attested in RIC. Rev. similar to popular type minted in Lugdunum, with altar to. l. (cf. for example LUGDUNUM 108a) but also not attested for Treveri. Apparently an ancient imitation.

NOTES

Weight 8.05 g; diameter 26.5 mm. From CGB E-shop (brm_322685), sold for EUR 375.
