NOT IN RIC
|
UNLISTED REVERSE LEGEND. RIC lists this type only with longer rev. legend MARTI VICTORI (p. 458). Note that absence of "I" could be a result of engraver's slip. SISCIA 27b is cited in RIC after Voetter's drawing [Numismatische Zeitschrift, 1920, Tafel 11] which shows undoubtedly "VICTORI" [click for picture]. Also example of SISCIA 27a (the same rev., minted for Constantius) from the Trau Collection (lot 3561) shows the same legend [click for picture]. General note from p. 440: "Marti Victori, for both Caesar's, is an innovation, though in the general tradition of the earlier types. [...] Date, c. (?) 303-5". Not listed in Depeyrot. Coin should be listed after SISCIA 27b.
