RIC VI, ROMA [after 33], CONSTANTIUS, UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND [3b]

OBVERSE

CONSTAN-TIVSCAES [CONSTANTIVS CAES] [3b]; head r., laur.

REVERSE

VIRTVS-MILITVM [VIRTVS MILITVM]; the four princes sacrificing over tripod before gate in six-turreted enclosure. R in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND - 3b. RIC lists for this issue only obv. legend 3a (p. 353). General note from p. 333: "After the unmarked issue came a small and rare issue marked R, represented in the Sisak hoard by only two coins (both for Diocletian)". Constantius' coin with obv. legend CONSTANTIVS CAESAR is extremely rare - rarity R5. According to footnote 3 on p. 353, "this unique coin is the only one so far recorded for a Caesar in this issue". But note that it could be a misprint in RIC: obv. legend 3a instead of 3b. Note also that this type could be easily confused with ROMA 42a from officina A. Coin should be listed after ROMA 33.
