NOT IN RIC
|
UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND AND REVERSE VARIETY. Specimen formally unlisted in RIC but in fact it is rather a fantasy coin and a modern forgery.
Obverse somehow similar to aureus from Thessalonica - THESSALONICA 44b (Berlin no. 18230416, 5.21 g, 20 mm).
Reverse was probably supposed to imitate NICOMEDIA 69b but note that there is an error in description in RIC (see CORRIGENDA, VOL. VI, p. 566) and this rev. actually shows rev. of RIC VII NICOMEDIA 12 (or 13).
