ENGRAVER'S ERROR. Obv. legend IMP C MAXIMIANVS NOB C is not attested in RIC VI. Probably the engraver started with legend for Maximian Herculius (Augustus) IMP C MAXIMIANVS... and mistakenly ended with legend for Galerius Maximian (Caesar) ...NOB C. However, the portrait apparently shows Maximian Herculius.
Note that this coin could belong to the next issue, with officina letter in r. field. One may see the outline of letter "B" in r. field (but apparently too close to cornucopiae). On the other side, this coin could be also regarded as an ancient imitation with errors.
Not listed in Bastien Lyon (294-316) and Bastien Lyon - suppléments I-II. Note, however, that according to Bastien Lyon (294-316) (p. 55 and footnote 1 on p. 210) specimens cited in RIS as LUGDUNUM 70 and 72 are imitations. Additionally, other coins with m.m. altar/PLC probably belong to the next issue altar|A-B/PLC and absence of officina letter should be regarded as a mint error.
