REVERSE

CONSERV-VRBSVAE [CONSERV VRB SVAE]; Roma seated l. on shield in tetrastyle temple, r. handing globe to Maxentius (in military dress, stg. r.), l. holding sceptre; seated captive between; two figures holding torches as acroteria (Dianae Luciferae?); wolf and twins in pediment. AQS in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

REVERSE VARIETY. Specimen similar to AQUILEIA 114 except for figures with torches as acroteria instead of Victories. Note that in "Addenda" RIC lists this variety for AQUILEIA 113 (p. 687; listed twice in Paolucci & Zub: as a variety b) of no. 173 and as no. 174). This variety is probably more common than the listed one. Listed in Paolucci & Zub as a variety of no. 175. Listed in Drost (p. 290, no. 37) as a variety of AQUILEIA 114. According to Drost, these figures are Dianae Luciferae. Note also that AQUILEIA 113-114 and other varieties with the same rev. type in fact belong to Group IV.
