RIC VII, TRIER [after 563], CONSTANTINOPOLIS, UNLISTED MINTMARK [IRREGULAR COIN]

OBVERSE

CONSTAN-TINOPOLIS [CONSTANTINOPOLIS]; bust l., laur. helmet, wearing imperial cloak, reversed spear.

REVERSE

Victory stg. l. on prow, holding spear and shield. Star in left field. PTR in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED MINTMARK. RIC lists Constantinopolis type with a wreath in left field (TRIER 554) and with a branch in left field (TRIER 563) but not with a star. Note also mark PTR, unusual for this period (TRP expected), and the style is not Treveran either. Apparently an imitative coin. Could be listed in footnotes after TRIER 563.

NOTES

Weight 2.1 g; diameter 17 mm. From Scott Palsce's collection.
