RIC VII, TRIER [before 476], CRISPUS, UNLISTED BUST TYPE [B1] [IRREGULAR COIN]

OBVERSE

FLIVLCRISPVSNOBCAES [FL IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES]; head r., laur. [B1].

REVERSE

PROVIDEN-TIAEAVGG [PROVIDENTIAE AVGG]; camp gate, two turrets, no doors, varying number of stone layers. PTR[dot over crescent] in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED BUST TYPE - B1. Not attested for obv. legend 5 (p. 209). Apparently an ancient imitation. Note that this specimen could be regarded as a hybrid with reverse TRIER 475. However, similar coin minted for Crispus [TRIER 476] with rev. legend PROVIDENTIAE AVGG is not considered a hybrid! Yet another inconsistency in RIC.

NOTES

Weight 2.66 g; diameter 19 mm. Coin sold on Leu Numismatik Web Auction 10, part 2 (lot 1705) in December 2019 for CHF 110.
