RIC VII, TRIER [after 476], CONSTANTINE II, MINTMARK VARIETY [IRREGULAR COIN]

OBVERSE

CONSTANTINVSIVNNOBC [CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C]; head r., laur.

REVERSE

PROVIDEN-TIAEAVGG [PROVIDENTIAE AVGG]; camp gate, two turrets, no doors, star above, varying number of stone layers. PTR• in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

MINTMARK VARIETY. Unusual mintmark with dot at the end instead of dot over crescent. Otherwise, this specimen could be regarded as a hybrid [obverse TRIER 478 with reverse TRIER 475]. But note that similar coin minted for Crispus [TRIER 476] with rev. legend PROVIDENTIAE AVGG is not considered a hybrid! Yet another inconsistency in RIC. Probably an ancient imitation.
