RIC VII, TRIER [after 430], CONSTANTINE I, UNLISTED BUST TYPE [B5] AND ENGRAVER'S ERROR [IRREGULAR COIN]

OBVERSE

CONSTAN-TINVSAVG [CONSTANTINVS AVG]; bust r., laur., cuir. [B5].

REVERSE

CAESARVMNOSTRORV [CAESARVM NOSTRORV (sic!)]; laurel wreath enclosing VOT/X. PTR(M upside down) in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED NUST TYPE - B5 AND ENGRAVER'S ERROR. Bust not attested for obv. legend 1 (p. 201-202). Note that this coin is a hybrid but RIC lists similar hybrid with bust type B1 as a separate type (TRIER 430). Note also additional "M" (upside down) in exergue which in fact belongs to rev. legend (NOSTRORVM). See TRIER 434, CONSTANTINE II, ENGRAVER'S ERROR with similar error (but different rev. die). Apparently an ancient imitation. Coin could be noted after TRIER 430.

NOTES

Weight 1.50 g; diameter 17 mm. Coin sold on Leu Numismatik Web Auction 13 (lot 1523) in August 2020 for CHF 60.
