RIC VII, SISCIA 217, CONSTANTIUS II, UNLISTED MINTMARK [TOOLING]

OBVERSE

FLIVLCONSTANTIVSNOBC [FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C]; bust l., laur., dr., cuir.

REVERSE

PROVIDEN-TIAECAESS [PROVIDENTIAE CAESS]; camp gate, two turrets, no doors, star above; varying number of stone layers. SSISC (sic!) in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED MINTMARK. Not attested for Siscia and very unusual. Apparently a result of tooling, i.e. coin should be regarded as a modern fake (made unintentionally?). Probably SISCIA 217 (or SISICIA 195). The first "S" in SSISC was made from officina letter ("Є" or "B"), while the last "C" - from double crescent (or wreath).

NOTES

Weight 3.3. g; diameter 19 mm. From Paweł Kubiczek's collection.
