REVERSE

SARMATIA-DEVICTA [SARMATIA DEVICTA]; Victory advancing r., holding trophy on r. arm, branch in l. hand, spurning captive std. r. on ground. C in left field. PLG in exergue.

UNLISTED MINTMARK. Specimen similar to LYONS 214 except for the absence of crescent in m.m. (p. 135). It could be an engraver's error or clogged die. However, this variety is also listed in Bastien Lyon II (p. 165, no. 170). Also Bruun mentions it in footnote 217 on p. 135: "In addition 2 shorter marks known: C/PLG in C, C/PLG• in Ox. It is quite possible that the first m.m. of our list was preceded by such short marks" (p. 135). Coin should be listed before LYONS 214.
