UNLISTED ISSUE. The combination of motifs from Constantinoplian gold coinage with unusual rev. legend and m.m. (resembling CONSTANTINOPLE 91-92). Traces of double strike. Note wrong style and errors in rev. legend. Probably an ancient imitation. Compare also two other coins which looks like products of the same workshop: HERACLEA [after 102] and CONSTANTINOPLE [after 107]. Also, possibility of modern forgery cannot be excluded. Interesting light weight "barbarous" solidus. Could be noted after CONSTANTINOPLE 98.

NOTES

Underweight solidus. Weight 3.87 g; diameter 20 mm. Coin sold on CNG auction in May 2010 for USD 3,700.
