RIC VII, AQUILEIA 4, CONSTANTINE I, REVERSE VARIETY

OBVERSE

IMPCONSTANTINVSPFAVG [IMP CONSTANTINVS P F AVG]; bust r., laur., dr., cuir.

REVERSE

SOLIINV-I-CTOCOMITI [SOLI INVICTO COMITI]; Sol rad., stg. l., raising r. hand, globe turned inwards in l., chlamys hanging from l. shoulder. AQP in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

REVERSE VARIETY. Specimen similar to AQUILEIA 4 except for Sol holding globe turned inwards instead of holding globe up. Also, sometimes Sol's chlamys is hanging from l. shoulder instead of flying out. See footnote 4 on p. 393: "in V [Vienna] 1 with rev. showing chlamys falling down from shoulder; in L [London] and Mun [Munich] 1 each with similar chlamys and Sol holding globe close to body. Kent 'Pattern', nos. 744-5, probably wants to make this distinction although he records 2 Sol types with exactly the same rev. description". Coins from London and Munich are probably identical with the specimen shown here. Description in Kent reads as follows: "standing l., globe outward" (p. 59). For no. 745 it should be "globe inward".
