RIC VII, ANTIOCH 4, LICINIUS I, [CORRECTION]

OBVERSE

LICIN-IVSPFAVG [LICINIVS P F AVG]; head r., laur.

REVERSE

VOTISV-MVLTISX [VOTIS V MVLTIS X]; Victory stg. r., holding shield inscribed VI/CTO/RIA/AVG on cippus. Q over II in left field. SMAΣ in exergue.

NOT IN RIC

[CORRECTION]. RIC cites specimen from Trau Collection ("Hess 1935, 3788") but coin no. 3788 on plate 44 has no crescent and star in exergue. Note that variety of ANTIOCH 4 with crescent and star in exergue apparently does not exist but this pattern is correct for ANTIOCH 5 and ANTIOCH 6.

NOTES

Aureus. Weight 5.30 g. Sold on Numismatica Ars Classica auction 91 (lot 66) in May 2016 for CHF 48,000.

Other specimens:

- from Jean Elsen auction 130 (lot 213), September 2016 (= Hess 1935, 3788); weight 5.22 g [click for picture].
