RIC VII, ANTIOCH 106/105, CONSTANTINE II, HYBRID

OBVERSE

ANEPIGRAPHIC (no legend); head r., laur., looking upwards [ANTIOCH 106].

REVERSE

CONSTAN-TINVSAVG [CONSTANTINVS AVG]; Victory advancing l., holding wreath and palm branch. SMAN in exergue [ANTIOCH 105].

NOT IN RIC

HYBRID. Obverse ANTIOCH 106 with reverse ANTIOCH 105 (p. 696). The coin shows, almost undoubtedly, portrait of Constantine II. It could be struck intentionally from existing dies right after the death of Constantine I, but at that time diadem would be expected for new Augustus.

NOTES

Siliqua. Weight 3.25 g. Coin sold on CNG Triton XII (lot 777) in January 2009 for USD 4,250.
