RIC VI, LONDINIUM [before 17], DIOCLETIAN, UNLISTED FOR RULER [IRREGULAR COIN]

OBVERSE

IMPCDIOCLITIANVSPFAVG [IMP C DIOCLITIANVS (sic!) PI AVG]; bust r., laur., dr., cuir.

REVERSE

GENIOPOPV-LIROMANI [GENIO POPVLI ROMANI]; Genius stg. l., modius on head, naked but for chlamys over l. shoulder, r. holding patera, l. cornucopiae.

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED FOR RULER. With "larger, elongated head on shorter neck" fits to Class II (b) where Diocletian is not present. But note somehow crude style and lettering with errors: DIOCLITIANVS and PI which was probably intended for P F. Apparently an ancient imitation. Could be noted before LONDINIUM 17.

NOTES

Weight 7.01 g; diameter 28 mm. Rauceby hoard. From the British Museum Collection (reg. no. 2022,4018.354).
